Analyze Data and Uncertainty
Learners make sense of data honestly. They calculate the mean, median and range and see how an outlier pulls on them, use a marble-sampling simulation to see why random samples vary and why larger samples tend to land closer to the truth, learn why two things rising together does not prove one causes the other, and write conclusions with honest confidence language. An optional lesson for older learners explains why the size of a sample matters more than the size of the population.

- Data and uncertainty check: 10 questions
- Ways to answer: choose an answer, type a number, sort into groups, arrange tiles, true or false and write a short answer
What learners will discover
- Calculate and interpret the mean, median and range of a data set, and explain how an outlier affects them.
- Explain sampling variability: random samples give different results, and larger random samples tend to be closer to the true value.
- Explain why correlation does not prove causation and identify possible third factors.
- State conclusions from data with honest confidence language and clear limits.
