Short stories where the work is the learning: to share the picnic a child shares it out, to plan the trip a child reads the timetable. Every mission is written five times, for Preschool to Grade 8, and nothing is timed.

Plan Mission 18 The Library Mystery A book is missing, a note falls out of a page, and the clues are all in writing. Read them and put the library right.

Plan Mission 19 The Animal Shelter Helpers The shelter is short of hands. Feed, measure, stock the store room and plan the day for every animal.

Plan Mission 20 Design a Playground The empty lot is getting a playground, and the children are drawing the plan: shapes that fit, squares that count, and safe room to play.

Plan Mission 23 The Mountain Supply Run Pack the loads, read the trail, beat the sunset and bring the supplies up to the hut.

Plan Mission 24 Build a Marble Machine Guess where the marble will go, build the run, test it, and fix what goes wrong, until it lands with a plink.

Plan Mission 25 The Neighborhood Newspaper The Plum Lane Page comes out on Friday. Report what happened, say only what you know, and say it clearly.

Plan Mission 26 The Toymaker's Order Build each toy exactly as the order says, then check it before it leaves the workshop.

Plan Mission 27 The Boat Designer Try what floats, load boats to the waterline, and design a hull that carries its cargo.

Plan Mission 28 The Community Fair Stalls, a stage, a three-legged race and one small green: make the whole fair fit.

Plan Mission 29 The Missing Instructions The school's How-To Folder blew apart. Put the steps back, find what is missing, and make each page work.

Plan Mission 30 Restore Discovery Island A hard winter closed the island. Mend it, plant it, light it and plan it, and open it on Saturday.
