How it works

  1. One question at a timeBig pictures for younger children, numbers and words for older ones. Olly reads every question and can say it again.
  2. It adapts as it goesA right answer moves up to the next skill; a tricky one steps back to the skill it builds on. Each skill is asked two or three times.
  3. A learning map, not a scoreResults show as skills: secure, getting there, or not yet. Nothing is a grade level or a diagnosis.
  4. Practice picks up from thereGames, lessons and daily adventures focus on what your child is ready to learn.

Made to feel like play

  • No timer, no score, and no "test": younger children hear "Let's discover what you already know!"
  • No right-or-wrong buzzers during the check. Olly cheers the effort after every answer.
  • A calm trail of footprints shows progress instead of "question 7 of 20".
  • Take a break any time; it picks up on the same question, even on another device.
  • Speech sounds for blending are played by Olly's own phonics voice; the device voice never says a lone sound.

Pick an age. These are real Skill Check questions; your answers are checked on our server at the end and nothing is saved.

Ages 4 to 8 get reading and math, taking turns. Age 9 gets math only, because Skill Check's reading questions stop at Grade 3 today.

What it covers today

Skill Check covers reading for Preschool–Grade 3 and math for Preschool–Grade 8 today; other grades and subjects use course quizzes and learning checks.

What grown-ups see

Every skill, in wordsEach skill asked, how many questions were right, and what that likely means. Skills a secure answer builds on are marked "likely known".
Progress you can trustComparisons only with an earlier check of the same kind. A single check never marks a skill as mastered.
Teachers see class work onlyA teacher can ask the class for a check and sees those results; home learning stays with the family.

Privacy

The demo on this page stores nothing about you or your child: the five answers are checked and forgotten. In the PlayOwl app, a child's Skill Check results stay in their family account; a teacher sees only the checks their class asked for. No AI is used to score answers or choose questions: every rule is written down and the same for every child.
