Build and Explain an Interactive Program

The Grade 9 project course: learners design an interactive text program (state, command functions and a main loop), trace it through sequences of valid and invalid commands using the worked example TaskBoard, test it with normal, boundary and invalid interactions, and explain it with clear code walkthroughs. A reviewed task asks each learner to plan and explain an interactive program of their own.

  • 4 lessons
  • About 95 minutes
  • Check what you learned: 8 questions
  • Ways to answer: choose an answer, trace code, highlight a text, match pairs, type a number and put in order

What learners will discover

  • Design an interactive program with state, one function per command, parsing and a main loop.
  • Trace an interactive program's behaviour for sequences of valid and invalid commands.
  • Test an interactive program with normal, boundary and invalid interactions and exact expected replies.
  • Explain code with a clear walkthrough that follows an example and justifies design decisions.
