What it is

A balance scale holds mystery x-boxes and unit weights. Every move — take 3 off both pans, split both sides into equal groups, multiply both sides — is shown in notation beside the scale, so 2x + 3 = 11 becomes 2x = 8 and then x = 4. Each step is checked to keep the equation balanced, with exact fractions and negative numbers in the later track.

What children learn

Equations as balance: inverse operations applied to both sides, one-step and two-step equations, negative numbers, fractional coefficients and constants, and unknowns on both sides — always linking the physical move to the written line.

What it teaches

  • One-step equations
  • Variables on both sides
  • Two-step equations
  • Solve one- and two-step equations

How to play

Drag a weight or x-box off a pan, then do the same on the other pan; or choose an operation (add, subtract, multiply, divide), set the amount and press Apply. Undo takes back a step. Everything works with Tab, Enter and Space.
