What it is
An orchard where the maths grows in rows. Children pair up fruit to find odd and even numbers, plant arrays of trees for times facts, and pack fruit into equal crates to divide. In the Big Orchard they split wide fields along the tens and hundreds, multiply each part and add the parts, then pack crates in rows to divide with remainders. Every build is checked on the server, and there is more than one right array when a task allows it.
What children learn
Odd and even by pairing and doubles; multiplication as equal rows, repeated addition and turned arrays; division as equal groups and missing factors within 100; the area model for two- and three-digit by one-digit and two-digit by two-digit multiplication with partial products; division with remainders.
What it teaches
- Multi-digit multiplication
- Odd and even numbers
- Multiply and divide within 100
How to play
Tap two fruits to pair them, or press Pair two. Plant arrays with the + and − buttons or by dragging the corner of the field. Pack crates with the packing buttons. Drag split lines along the tens marks. Keyboard: Tab to a control; on the field, arrow keys change rows and columns; on a split line, arrow keys move it one tens mark; Enter checks.
