What it is
A picnic blanket is covered in dashed outlines. Children drag circles, squares, triangles and rectangles from the basket onto the outline that fits. Later picnics add stars, ovals and rhombuses, big and small copies, and outlines that are turned. The pictures do the talking, so no reading is needed.
What children learn
Builds shape recognition and naming (circle, square, triangle, rectangle, star, oval, rhombus), and shows that a shape keeps its name when it is turned or changes size.
