What this book practices
A shortened adaptation, in new words, of Part I of Jonathan Swift's 1726 satire: the wreck, the tiny emperor and his court, ministers who win office by leaping, a war over eggs, a captured fleet and a narrow escape. Readers weigh favor, gratitude and quarrels over small things.

- Adaptation
- Follows the events of Part I (A Voyage to Lilliput) of Gulliver's Travels by Jonathan Swift, first published in 1726, shortened and told in new sentences in Gulliver's own voice. The palace fire, the crude passages, the firearms and the religious side of the egg quarrel are left out; the war is told without bloodshed and the court's sentence without detail. The emperor's titles, one exchange with Reldresal and Gulliver's closing reflection are new. No edition, abridgement, film or illustrated version was copied. Public domain. The work was first published in 1726 and Jonathan Swift died in 1745, nearly three hundred years ago, so no copyright in it exists anywhere. PlayOwl claims no rights in the underlying story.

- Text
- Written for PlayOwl in 2026 as a new, shortened adaptation of Part I, A Voyage to Lilliput, of Gulliver's Travels. Every sentence is new PlayOwl wording, checked against Swift's text, apart from three short kept phrases: "since the greatest princes do no more", "a free and brave people" and "the convenient end". Swift's invented names and words are used where the story needs them: Lilliput, Blefuscu, Quinbus Flestrin (the Man-Mountain), "Hekinah degul", nardac, Big-Endians, and the names of the courtiers. Original wording owned by PlayOwl. The underlying story is in the public domain (see the adaptation record).
