Adaptation
Follows the Brinker family's part of Hans Brinker; or, The Silver Skates by Mary Mapes Dodge, first published in 1865. The story is shortened and told in new sentences; the boys' skating tour, the chapters about Dutch history and customs, the story of the watch and the closing chapters are left out, and the father's illness and operation are told briefly, without detail. No edition, abridgement, film or illustrated version was copied; only the events, the characters, the names and the three short phrases named in the text record come from the original. Public domain. In the United States, copyright in works published before 1929 has expired, and this work was first published in 1865. In countries where copyright lasts for the author's life plus 70 years, the term ended on 31 December 1975, because Mary Mapes Dodge died in 1905. PlayOwl claims no rights in the underlying story.
