Energy Changes and Reaction Rates
Learners track energy in reactions: they classify exothermic and endothermic changes from data and energy diagrams, measure heat with q = mcΔT, and estimate enthalpy changes from bond energies. They then explain reaction rates with collision theory and activation energy, analyse gas-volume data and design a fair rate investigation.

- Ways to answer: choose an answer, draw a graph, label a picture, match pairs, type a number and put in order
What learners will discover
- Classify reactions as exothermic or endothermic from temperature data and energy diagrams, and explain the energy change with bond breaking and bond forming.
- Calculate heat transferred with q = mcΔT and estimate reaction enthalpy changes from average bond energies.
- Explain how temperature, concentration, surface area and catalysts affect reaction rate using collision theory and activation energy.
- Determine and compare reaction rates from data and graphs, and plan a fair investigation of a rate factor.
