Raster and Vector Models
Every GIS stores the world in one of two ways: as vector features (points, lines and polygons with attributes) or as raster grids of cells. Learners choose a data model for a phenomenon and scale, reason about raster resolution and mixed pixels, calculate slope and reclassify a digital elevation model, and chain vector operations such as buffer and overlay into a site-suitability workflow.

- Raster and vector check: 11 questions
- Ways to answer: choose an answer, estimate, highlight a text, pin a map, match pairs and type a number
What learners will discover
- Distinguish vector and raster data models and choose a suitable representation for a phenomenon at a given scale.
- Explain raster resolution, calculate cell counts and storage effects, and recognise mixed pixels.
- Analyse a digital elevation model by calculating slope, reclassifying cells and interpreting flow.
- Apply buffer, overlay and spatial query operations to answer a site-suitability question.
