Conic Sections and Coordinate Models
Learners study circles, parabolas, ellipses and hyperbolas as sets of points defined by distances. They complete the square to find centers, derive the equation of a parabola from its focus and directrix, read foci and eccentricity from equations, classify conics from general equations, and use reflective properties in designs such as dishes, reflectors and orbits.

What learners will discover
- Write circles in standard form by completing the square and identify the center and radius.
- Derive and use the equation of a parabola from its focus and directrix.
- Analyze ellipses and hyperbolas: vertices, foci, eccentricity and asymptotes.
- Classify conics from their equations and apply their reflective and orbital properties.
