Map Communities and Resources

Natural resources are things from nature that people use: water, soil, trees, rocks and minerals, plants and animals, sunlight and wind. Learners trace products back to the resources they come from, read a resource map with a key, explain why communities grow near resources (with real examples from Illinois and California), and choose ways to conserve resources by reducing, reusing and recycling.
