Word Roots, Affixes and Fluent Reading
Grade 4 readers meet many long, unfamiliar words, especially in science and social studies. This course teaches ten common Greek and Latin roots (graph, tele, photo, port, rupt, struct, aud, vis, dict, spect), combines them with prefixes and suffixes to decode and define words, and practises fluent reading of an original article about volcanoes, using context to confirm or correct words.
