Spreadsheets and Data Visualization
Learners work in a fictional spreadsheet program with a library reading challenge, a community-garden harvest log and bike-share ride counts. They write formulas with cell references, use SUM, AVERAGE, MIN and MAX on ranges, predict how formulas change when filled down, sort and filter to answer questions, and choose the chart that fits the question: bar, line, pie or scatter.

- About 100 minutes
- Spreadsheets and charts check: 10 questions
- Ways to answer: fill in the blanks, choose an answer, trace code, match pairs, type a number and put in order
What learners will discover
- Identify cells, rows, columns and ranges, and write formulas that start with = and use cell references instead of typed numbers.
- Use SUM, AVERAGE, MIN and MAX on ranges and predict how relative references change when a formula is filled down.
- Sort and filter a table, keeping rows together, to answer questions about the data.
- Choose a chart that fits the question: bar for comparing categories, line for change over time, pie for parts of one whole with few slices, scatter for relationships.
