Source Verification and AI Literacy

Learners check sources by author, purpose, date and evidence, read laterally to see what independent sources say, and separate facts from opinions. They investigate photos shared out of context, then look inside AI text and image generators: tools that predict likely output from patterns in their training data. Learners practice verifying AI output claim by claim and disclosing honestly how they used it.

  • 4 lessons
  • About 100 minutes
  • Sources and AI check: 10 questions
  • Ways to answer: choose an answer, trace code, highlight a text, match pairs, put in order and sort into groups

What learners will discover

  • Evaluate a source by asking who made it (author), why (purpose), when (date) and what supports it (evidence).
  • Verify claims with lateral reading and corroboration from independent sources, and tell checkable facts from opinions.
  • Recognize images shared out of context and use clues and image searches to check where a picture really came from.
  • Explain that AI generators predict likely output from patterns in training data, so fluent output can be wrong or invent sources; verify AI output and disclose its use.
