Narrative Technique

Using an original mentor story about a girl baking her grandfather's cornbread from a smudged recipe card, learners study advanced narrative techniques: openings that establish context and a narrator, dialogue that reveals character and moves the plot, the difference between scene and summary, transitions that signal a flashback and a return, and endings that reflect. They then draft a narrative with a time shift.
