Search, Evidence, Attribution and Licensing
Following one student's research on protected bike lanes, learners write precise searches with operators and Boolean logic, weigh primary and secondary evidence, peer review and conflicts of interest, and check claims by reading laterally. They then attribute sources and media completely and decide how works may be reused under copyright, the public domain, Creative Commons licenses and, at a general level, the U.S. fair-use factors.

What learners will discover
- Construct and interpret searches using quotes, exclusion and site limits, and predict which records a Boolean query with AND, OR, NOT and parentheses returns.
- Evaluate evidence by distinguishing primary and secondary sources, judging peer review and conflicts of interest, and checking claims with lateral reading.
- Write complete attributions (title, author, source, license, changes) and explain why credit is not the same as permission.
- Apply copyright, public domain, Creative Commons conditions and the four fair-use factors (at a general level) to decide whether and how a work may be reused.
