Geography · Grade 9
Physical Systems and Landscapes
Learners read landscapes as records of process and time. They examine the evidence for plate tectonics — magnetic stripes, ocean-floor ages and the Hawaiian hotspot chain — and calculate plate speeds; link rock type to landscapes such as karst; explain river, glacial, coastal and desert landforms process by process; and use rates of change to reconstruct how a landscape formed.

- Landscapes and processes check: 10 questions
- Ways to answer: choose an answer, pin a map, pick map regions, match pairs, type a number and put in order
What learners will discover
- Use evidence (magnetic striping, ocean-floor ages, earthquake depths, hotspot chains) to explain plate movement and calculate plate speeds.
- Explain the rock cycle and how rock type and structure shape landscapes such as karst.
- Explain river and glacial landforms using specific erosional and depositional processes and rates.
- Explain coastal and arid landforms and reconstruct a landscape's history from evidence.
