Books, Pictures and Print
Children explore how books work: the front cover and its title, turning pages from front to back, and the difference between pictures and words. They learn that the words tell the reader what to say, and they spot print and signs in the world around them.
- 3 lessons
- About 35 minutes
- Print check: 4 questions
- Ways to answer: choose an answer, match pairs and sort into groups
What learners will discover
- Tell the words (print) apart from the pictures on a page, a cover or an object.
- Know that the words carry the message: the title on the front cover names the book and the reader reads the words, which say the same thing every time.
- Notice print and signs in the world (on buildings, packages and signs) and say what they tell us.
