Interpret Extended Informational Texts
Learners work with extended informational texts of the kind found in quality journalism and reports. Through an original feature article on 'sponge cities' that live with heavy rain, an accompanying illustrative chart and a shorter editorial, they identify central idea, purpose and structure, test claims against data, decode advanced vocabulary and journalistic expressions, and practise the main question types of formal reading assessments before writing an analytical response.

What learners will discover
- Determine the central idea, purpose and intended audience of an extended informational text and explain how its structure (problem–solution, cause–effect, comparison) serves that purpose.
- Interpret a chart or table alongside a text and evaluate whether the text's claims are supported, qualified or not addressed by the data.
- Infer the meaning of advanced vocabulary and common journalistic expressions (a raíz de, poner en marcha, cobrar fuerza, en cambio) from context, morphology and register.
- Answer main-idea, detail, inference, purpose and vocabulary-in-context questions with evidence, and write a concise analytical response.
