Interpret Longer Connected Texts
Learners read longer, connected Spanish texts with confidence. Using an original feature article about the return of the bicycle in cities such as Bogotá, Sevilla and Mexico City, and an opinion column about phones in class, they track paragraph structure and discourse markers, follow references (esto, este cambio, ellos), separate main ideas from examples, infer the writer's attitude, work out vocabulary through word formation, and write a structured summary with a personal response.

What learners will discover
- Track the organization of a longer text through paragraph topics, discourse markers (en primer lugar, sin embargo, por eso, en definitiva) and reference words (esto, este cambio, ellos).
- Distinguish main ideas from supporting details and examples, and condense each paragraph into one sentence.
- Infer the author's attitude and purpose from word choice, and work out unfamiliar vocabulary from context and word formation (-miento, -ción, -dad, re-, des-).
- Write a structured summary of a longer text followed by a reasoned personal response.
