Analyze Literary and Cultural Perspectives
Learners read short public-domain literary texts from Spain and Cuba — José Martí's 'Cultivo una rosa blanca' (1891), Gustavo Adolfo Bécquer's Rima XXI, and the openings of Don Quijote (1605) and Lazarillo de Tormes (1554) — and analyze how voice, imagery, symbolism and figurative language create meaning. They connect each text to the perspectives of its time and place without anachronistic judgments, compare how two poems treat a theme, and write a literary analysis built on quotations and commentary.
