What it is
Balloons drift up over the meadow, each carrying a key, a word or a little sentence. Type what's on the glowing balloon and press the space bar to pop it in a burst of confetti. Balloons never float away: they wait at the top until you're ready. Key Balloons follows the Typing Academy order, from the home row to capitals, question marks and apostrophes; Word Balloons brings real words, names and punctuation; Tap Balloons is made for touchscreens.
What children learn
Builds accurate keyboarding: new keys are drilled, then used in real words that only need keys taught so far. Stars reward keys right the first time, never speed. Touchscreen runs are kept separate from keyboard runs.
What it teaches
- Home row keys
- Touchscreen text entry
- Punctuation and capitals
- All letter keys
How to play
Click the balloons or press Enter to start, then type. On Key Balloons a wrong key simply waits for the right one; on Word Balloons fix a red letter with Backspace. The space bar pops each balloon. On a touchscreen, use the big on-screen keyboard.
Plays with: Touch Keyboard
Accessibility
- Read-aloud on request
- Fully playable with a keyboard
- Calm mode with reduced motion
- No timers or time pressure
- Never relies on color alone
- Quiet mode turns off sound effects
