What it is

Olly learns to fly as you learn the keyboard. Each flight teaches two new keys, starting with F and J (the keys with bumps) and working out across the home row, then the top row, the bottom row, and finally Shift, capitals, question marks and apostrophes. An on-screen keyboard colours each key by the finger that presses it, and a hand picture lights up the right finger. If you press a different key, the right key simply glows; there is no buzzer and nothing runs ahead without you.

What children learn

Practises touch-typing technique: home-row position, which finger presses each key, and reaching to the top and bottom rows and back. Each level moves from single keys to key pairs to short real words that use only the keys learned so far. Measures keys right the first time, never speed.

How to play

Needs a physical keyboard. Click the typing panel or press Enter to start, then type the glowing key. Tab moves out of the typing panel as usual. Turn on Say next key to hear each key and finger; switch on the high-contrast keyboard if colours are hard to see.
