Mission 11

The Market Challenge

Saturday is market day. Fill a birthday fruit bowl, shop a neighbor's list, mind the fruit stall, stock a club stall and run a juice bar. Every job takes coins, and a coin can be spent well or spent better. Count, weigh, compare, and choose.

For grown-ups: what this mission practices

Comparing more and fewer and counting coins out to a price; comparing prices and tracking a purse; weighing in kilograms, pricing by the kilogram, adding a bill and giving change; unit prices by the item, kilogram and liter, and when the big pack is not the better buy; setting a price that covers costs; and weighing quality, quantity and price inside a fixed budget, then justifying the choice.

Ages
Five versions, from Preschool to Grade 8. They are different designs, not the same task with other numbers.
How it is checked
Every answer is checked by rules the child can see at work on the screen. Any answer that meets them is right.
Help
Olly can read any line aloud, give a hint that points at where to look, or show one way. A report says where help was used.
Time
Nothing is timed. A part takes a few minutes and progress is saved after each one for a signed-in child.
