Mission 6

The Museum Mix-Up

A cart tipped over and a box was unpacked in the wrong order, the night before the Thimble Creek Museum opens its new exhibition. Put each thing back where it belongs, line up the years, and find out what an old object can really tell you.

Who is playing?

Each age gets its own version of the story. Any of them is fine to play.

The Ferry Lantern Question

The job: Weigh the evidence about the museum's best-loved object, plan the research worth doing, and rewrite its label so that every claim is earned.

For grown-ups: what this mission practices

Sorting and matching by kind and purpose, counting to check a label, ordering in time (a life cycle, a day, generations, years), measuring in centimeters, working with years, and reading tables. Older children tell observation from inference, bracket a date from evidence, weigh sources and justify what a label may claim.

Ages
Five versions, from Preschool to Grade 8. They are different designs, not the same task with other numbers.
How it is checked
Every answer is checked by rules the child can see at work on the screen. Any answer that meets them is right.
Help
Olly can read any line aloud, give a hint that points at where to look, or show one way. A report says where help was used.
Time
Nothing is timed. A part takes a few minutes and progress is saved after each one for a signed-in child.
