A cat face is a great first origami model. You fold a triangle, fold two corners up so they poke out as pointy ears, and tuck the chin behind. Then you draw the eyes, nose and whiskers. Use paper that is colored on one side and white on the other so you can see each fold.
Before you start
You need
Decorating (optional): Draw the eyes, nose, mouth and whiskers with a marker. You can add stripes on the head or color the inside of the ears.
No square of origami paper? No origami paper? Fold the corner of a printer sheet over to the opposite edge, then tear off the extra strip along a sharp crease to make a square.
- Valley fold: blue dashes. Fold toward you, like a valley.
- Mountain fold: pink dash-dot. Fold away from you, like a mountain.

You made it!
Yours may look a little different. That is part of making things by hand.
If something goes wrong
The ears do not poke up above the head.
Start the fold right at the bottom point and make the fold line steeper, closer to the middle. The more upright the line, the higher the ear.
One ear is bigger than the other.
Unfold the second ear and fold it again so its tip is as high as the first one. The old crease helps you line it up.
The chin pops back out.
Press the chin fold hard with your fingernail, or fold a little more of the point behind.
Helpful hints
- Line up the corners exactly before you press the first fold flat.
- Run your fingernail along every fold to make it sharp.
- Hold the ears in place with one finger while you fold the chin.
