The passage and its 6 questions
Directions: Read the passage carefully. Then answer the questions in full sentences.
- Bat-Erdene lives with his family on the wide grasslands of Mongolia. His home is a round tent called a ger. Many people call it a yurt.
- The walls are a wooden frame wrapped in thick felt. Felt is a heavy cloth made from sheep's wool. It keeps out the cold wind. In the middle there is a stove, and a round window at the top lets in light and fresh air.
- Bat-Erdene's family keeps sheep, goats and horses. When the grass gets short, the animals need fresh grass. So the family takes the yurt apart, packs it up and moves to a new place. It takes only a few hours to build it again!
- At night, Bat-Erdene looks up through the round window and counts the stars.
- 1. What is a ger?
- 2. What is felt made from?
- 3. Why does the family move their home?
- 4. What does the word 'grasslands' mean in paragraph 1?
- 5. Copy the sentence that shows a yurt can be put up quickly.
- 6. Retell the text in three short sentences: first, next, last.
