Adaptation
Follows the events of the whole of The Adventure of the Blue Carbuncle by Arthur Conan Doyle, first published in 1892. The story is shortened and told in new sentences. No edition, abridgement, film or illustrated version was copied; only the events, the characters, the names of people and places, and one short phrase ("Besides, it is the season of forgiveness") come from the original. Public domain. In the United States, copyright in works published before 1929 has expired, and this work was first published in 1892. In countries where copyright lasts for the author's life plus 70 years, the term ended on 31 December 2000, because Arthur Conan Doyle died in 1930. PlayOwl claims no rights in the underlying story.

Text
Written for PlayOwl in 2026 as a new, shortened adaptation of the whole of The Adventure of the Blue Carbuncle. Every sentence is new PlayOwl wording. The text was checked against Conan Doyle's original and reworded so that no sentence follows it. One short phrase of the original is kept: Holmes's closing remark, "Besides, it is the season of forgiveness." The closing note also names the original by its title, "The Adventure of the Blue Carbuncle". The newspaper notice that Holmes writes is given in PlayOwl's own words. Original wording owned by PlayOwl, apart from the one kept phrase named above, which is public-domain text. The underlying story is in the public domain (see the adaptation record).
