What this book practices

A shortened adaptation, in new words, of Kenneth Grahame's comic tale from Dream Days (1898): a poetry-loving dragon, a sensible boy and a tired knight stage a fight in which nobody is hurt. Good practice in reading dialogue with distinct voices and in telling rumor from fact.

Adaptation
Follows the events of The Reluctant Dragon by Kenneth Grahame, a story first published in 1898 in his book Dream Days: the shepherd's fright, the Boy's friendship with the dragon, the knight's arrival, the arranged fight and the feast. The story is shortened and told in new sentences. The original's opening frame, in which the tale is told to two children, is left out, and the knight, St George in the original, is called Sir George. No edition, abridgement, film or illustrated version was copied. Public domain. In the United States, copyright in works published before 1929 has expired, and this work was first published in 1898. In countries where copyright lasts for the author's life plus 70 years, the term ended on 31 December 2002, because Kenneth Grahame died in 1932. PlayOwl claims no rights in the underlying story.
