Adaptation
Follows the events of the first chapter, The River Bank (Mole's escape from spring cleaning, his meeting with the Water Rat, the picnic, the upset boat and the Rat's offer of a home) of The Wind in the Willows by Kenneth Grahame, first published in 1908. The story is shortened and told in new sentences; Toad's passing in his racing boat is left out. No edition, abridgement, film, play or illustrated version was copied; only the events, the characters and the phrase "messing about in boats" come from the original. Public domain. In the United States, copyright in works published before 1929 has expired, and this work was first published in 1908. In countries where copyright lasts for the author's life plus 70 years, the term ended on 31 December 2002, because Kenneth Grahame died in 1932. PlayOwl claims no rights in the underlying story.
