What children learn in coding
Coding is problem solving: break a task into steps, put them in order and fix what goes wrong. Children in Kindergarten to Grade 2 guide a robot with arrow blocks and simple loops, long before any typing. Grades 3–5 add conditions (if this, then that), events and debugging, and children start to design small games of their own. Middle school moves from blocks toward text, with variables, functions and algorithms, and high school courses teach a language such as Python or JavaScript.
PlayOwl has 5 coding games for Kindergarten to Grade 8, from Robot Routes (Kindergarten to Grade 6) to Garden Automation (Grades 4–8). There are 6 grade pages of coding games and 13 of coding worksheets (135 printable PDFs in all), such as 6th Grade Coding Games. The collection Coding Games for Kids: Little Coders groups games around one skill. Programming courses in the Academy go further, lesson by lesson, from Preschool to Grade 12.
