Explain and Defend a Position
Learners move from the opinion paragraph to the full argumentative essay and the structured debate. Around the question of whether secondary schools should require community service for graduation, they craft a precise thesis, build body paragraphs from claim, evidence and analysis, spot weak reasoning, concede and rebut with nuance and appropriate hedging, write a complete essay, and defend it in a debate.

What learners will discover
- Plan an argumentative essay: a precise, arguable thesis, body paragraphs built from claim, evidence and analysis, and a purposeful introduction and conclusion.
- Evaluate evidence and identify weak reasoning: overgeneralisation, false cause, personal attack and appeal to popularity.
- Concede and rebut with nuance (صَحِيحٌ أَنَّ …
- Write a complete argumentative essay (300–400 words) and defend the position in a structured debate.
