Read Connected Vowel-Supported Texts

Learners move from sentences to connected paragraphs. Reading fully vocalized texts about places in the Arabic-speaking world (Petra in Jordan, the Library of Alexandria in Egypt, a market in Muscat), they practise finding the main idea and details, tracking pronouns and connectors that hold a text together, working out unknown words from context, and summarising what they read.

What learners will discover

  • Read a connected, fully vocalized text of six to eight sentences and identify its main idea and key details.
  • Follow how a text holds together: what attached pronouns (ـهُ، ـهَا، ـهُمْ) and pronouns refer to, and what connectors (فَـ، ثُمَّ، لٰكِنَّ، لِأَنَّ، لِذٰلِكَ) signal.
  • Work out the meaning of unfamiliar words from context, known roots and the glossary.
  • Summarise a short text in two or three Arabic sentences in your own words.
