Arabic · Grade 4
Listen, Interpret and Respond
A listening course built on the kinds of Arabic people hear every day: an airport announcement, a voicemail from a friend, a weather forecast, a shop assistant and friends sharing news. Learners practise listening for the gist, catching details such as times, prices and places (including how Arabic says 25 as 'five and twenty'), reading feelings and intentions, and responding appropriately in a reply or a short message.
- 4 lessons
- About 100 minutes
- Listening check: 9 questions
- Ways to answer: choose an answer, choose a reply, match pairs, type a number, put in order and sort into groups
What learners will discover
- Identify the type and purpose of a short spoken text (announcement, voicemail, forecast, conversation) and its main message.
- Catch specific details when listening: times (الرَّابِعَةُ وَالنِّصْفُ), prices and numbers to 100 (said units first: خَمْسَةٌ وَعِشْرُونَ = 25), places and days.
- Infer a speaker's feelings and intentions from cue words (يَا لَلْأَسَفِ، رَائِعٌ، أَنَا قَلِقٌ) and from what they ask for.
- Respond appropriately to what you hear: choose a fitting reply, note key information and write a short response.
