Document and Demonstrate a Design

The final course turns a design project into evidence other people can trust and build on. Learners keep an honest engineering notebook, structure a design report that traces every requirement to a test and a result, present data clearly and truthfully, credit sources and teammates, and plan an accessible demonstration that invites critique. A Going further lesson adds a bill of materials, safety margins and a verification summary.

  • 5 lessons
  • About 115 minutes
  • Documentation and demonstration check: 10 questions
  • Ways to answer: choose an answer, draw a graph, highlight a text, match pairs, type a number and put in order

What learners will discover

  • Keep an engineering notebook with dated entries, sketches, data, decisions with reasons and sources, recorded honestly and in enough detail for someone else to follow.
  • Structure a design report that traces each requirement to a test and its result, and credits sources and team contributions honestly.
  • Present test data accurately with suitable tables and graphs, labelled axes, units and uncertainty, and recognise misleading displays.
  • Plan an accessible demonstration that shows evidence, responds honestly to questions and uses criterion-based feedback to improve the design.
  • Going further: prepare a bill of materials, calculate safety margins and summarise verification results quantitatively.
