A Chemistry Investigation with Reviewed Lab Evidence
The chemistry capstone takes learners through a complete investigation of how temperature affects reaction rate: planning with a risk assessment, collecting and processing repeated measurements, analysing trends and uncertainty, and writing a lab report that a teacher reviews. A simulation provides practice data, and an optional supervised low-risk practical provides real evidence; the course is explicit about what each can and cannot establish.
- 4 lessons
- About 130 minutes
- Investigation skills check: 10 questions
- Ways to answer: choose an answer, draw a graph, highlight a text, match pairs, type a number and put in order
What learners will discover
- Plan a chemistry investigation: a testable question, a reasoned hypothesis, identified variables, a method and a risk assessment.
- Process repeated measurements: identify anomalies, calculate means and uncertainties, and present data in tables and graphs.
- Draw a conclusion supported by evidence and evaluate random and systematic errors and possible improvements.
- Communicate an investigation in a structured report and explain what simulated evidence can and cannot establish compared with reviewed laboratory evidence.
