A Quantitative Capstone and Explanation

In this capstone, learners carry a quantitative question from start to finish: they make a vague question precise, choose and justify a model or method, compute and check results, test how sensitive conclusions are to assumptions, and explain the findings honestly to a non-specialist audience. The quiz also retrieves key skills from across the year.

  • 4 lessons
  • About 150 minutes
  • Capstone and year review: 11 questions
  • Ways to answer: choose an answer, highlight a text, type a number, put in order, sort into groups and true or false

What learners will discover

  • Pose a precise quantitative question and identify the variables, assumptions and data it needs.
  • Choose, justify and apply a model or method, drawing on functions, trigonometry, probability and optimization.
  • Evaluate a model with residuals, reasonableness checks and sensitivity to assumptions.
  • Explain a quantitative argument to a non-specialist audience with appropriate precision and honest uncertainty.
