Loops with a Purpose
Second graders decide when loops are useful, find the repeating unit in a path and choose the right repeat count, trace loops that change a value each time round, and use loops to climb staircases and patrol square paths with forward and turn blocks.
- 4 lessons
- About 70 minutes
- Loops check: 8 questions
- Ways to answer: program with blocks, choose an answer, trace code, type a number, sort into groups and true or false
What learners will discover
- Decide when a loop is useful: when steps repeat, to make programs shorter and easier to change.
- Find the repeating unit in a path and set the repeat count to the number of units.
- Trace a loop that changes a value each time round and predict the result.
- Use loops of forward and turn blocks to follow staircases and square paths.
