Loops and Patterns
Third graders draw regular shapes with loops (repeat the sides, turn 360 divided by the number of sides), predict number patterns made by loops, use repeat until loops that stop on a condition (and spot ones that never stop), and find repeating parts in robot paths.
- 4 lessons
- About 80 minutes
- Loops and patterns check: 8 questions
- Ways to answer: fill in the blanks, program with blocks, choose an answer, put code in order, trace code and match pairs
What learners will discover
- Draw a regular shape with a loop: repeat once per side and turn 360 divided by the number of sides.
- Predict the number pattern a loop makes, such as counting by 5 or doubling.
- Trace a repeat until loop, including one whose condition never becomes true.
- Find the repeating part of a robot path and program it with one loop.
