Investigations, Measurement and Evidence
Fourth graders sharpen the tools of investigation. They choose the right tool and metric unit for each measurement and read scales carefully, run a simulated investigation on how water temperature affects dissolving time, calculate the average of repeated trials and spot measurement errors, and separate observations from inferences when building a claim with evidence and reasoning.

What learners will discover
- Choose tools and metric units for measurements (cm and m, g and kg, mL and L, °C, seconds) and read measurement scales accurately.
- Repeat trials, calculate the average of a small set of measurements and identify a result that is likely a measurement error.
- Separate observations from inferences and support a claim with evidence and reasoning.
