Science · Grade 4
Weathering, Erosion and Natural Hazards
Water, ice, wind and roots break rock apart (weathering) and carry the pieces away (erosion). Learners measure weathering in a model, read maps to find patterns in where mountains, volcanoes and earthquakes occur, and compare engineering solutions that reduce the impact of natural hazards on people, from earthquake-resistant buildings to tsunami warning systems.

- Weathering, erosion and hazards check: 9 questions
- Ways to answer: choose an answer, pick map regions, match pairs, type a number, sort into groups and true or false
What learners will discover
- Use observations and measurements as evidence of weathering and of the rate of erosion by water, ice, wind and plants.
- Use maps to describe patterns in the locations of Earth's features, such as mountain ranges, volcanoes and earthquakes.
- Generate and compare solutions that reduce the impact of natural Earth processes on people.
