Mathematics · Grade 6
Decimal and Whole-Number Operations
Learners build fluency with the standard algorithms: long division of multi-digit whole numbers (including decimal quotients), and adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing multi-digit decimals. Each algorithm is connected to place value, every answer is checked with an estimate, and the course ends with shopping, fabric and fencing problems.

- Ways to answer: choose an answer, type a number, place on a number line, put in order, sort into groups and write a short answer
What learners will discover
- Divide multi-digit whole numbers with the standard long-division algorithm, continuing into decimal places when needed.
- Add and subtract multi-digit decimals fluently by aligning place values.
- Multiply and divide multi-digit decimals with the standard algorithms and explain where the decimal point goes.
- Estimate to check decimal computations and solve multi-step problems with prices and measurements.
