Blend and Read Taught Word Patterns
Children use the 13 letter–sound pairs they already know (m, s, a, t, p, n, i, f, o, d, c, g, h) to blend sounds into words with letter tiles, read words that differ by just one letter, learn five heart words (the, a, I, is, to) and read a short decodable story. The checks are built so that pictures and first-letter guessing never give the answer away.

What learners will discover

- Read every letter, including the middle vowel and the last sound, to tell apart words that differ by one letter (map, mop, mat).
- Read the heart words the, a, I, is and to, and tell which words have a tricky part and which can be sounded out.
- Read a short decodable story made of taught letters and heart words, and show what happened in it.
