Kindergarten Reading Worksheets
In the early grades, reading is about cracking the code. Children connect letters to sounds, blend sounds into words, read common sight words such as the, said and was by heart, and move from decodable sentences to short books. Alongside phonics, they answer questions about stories, learn new words from context, and write sentences with capitals and end marks. In kindergarten, children learn the sound of every letter, blend short-vowel words like cat and sit, read a first set of sight words, and print letters and simple words. Each kindergarten reading worksheet is a free printable PDF in US Letter or A4, many with an answer key for grown-ups and a low-ink version.
