How to Draw an Apple
- Starter (level 1 of 5)
- 5 min
- 5 steps
- Ages 3–6 (a guide, not a rule)
Draw on paper: Paper, Pencil. Optional: Eraser, Red, green and brown crayons or markers.
Draw it on the screen
An apple is round, with a little dip at the top where the stem grows. Draw one side, then the other side the same way, so the two curves meet at the top and at the bottom. Color it red, green or yellow: apples come in all three!
Rather color it? Print the apple coloring page.
Step by step
- New lines: purple, thick and glowing
- Lines you already drew: gray
Step 1 of 5
-
Step 1 of 5 Draw a big curve for the left side of the apple, from the top down to the bottom. -
Step 2 of 5 Draw the same curve on the right side, so the two curves meet. -
Step 3 of 5 Draw a short, thick stem in the dip at the top. -
Step 4 of 5 Draw a leaf next to the stem. -
Step 5 of 5 Draw a small curved line inside the apple to make it look shiny.

Your drawing does not have to look like this one. Every artist draws a little differently.
Tips for this drawing
Helpful hints
- Start both curves at the same point at the top. That makes the little dip.
- Go over the stem line twice to make it thick.
Common mistakes
- The apple looks like a ball. Give it a small dip at the top and a little dent at the bottom where the curves meet.
- The two sides do not meet. Look at where the first curve starts and ends, and aim the second curve at those same points.
Make it simpler
Draw a big circle, then add the stem and the leaf on top.
