How to Draw a Cloud
- Starter (level 1 of 5)
- 5 min
- 6 steps
- Ages 3–6 (a guide, not a rule)
Draw on paper: Paper, Pencil. Optional: Eraser, Light blue crayon or marker.
Draw it on the screen
A cloud starts with one flat line. Then you add round bumps on top, like puffs of cotton: a small bump, a big bump and one more. No two clouds look the same, so any bumps you make are just right.
Rather color it? Print the cloud coloring page.
Step by step
- New lines: purple, thick and glowing
- Lines you already drew: gray

Tips for this drawing
Helpful hints
- Make the middle bump the biggest. It makes the cloud look puffy.
- Your bumps do not have to match. Real clouds come in all shapes.
- Want a rainy day? Draw a few raindrops falling under the cloud.
Common mistakes
- The last bump stops too soon and leaves a gap. Keep the last bump going down until it touches the end of the flat line.
- There are lots of tiny bumps, so the cloud looks like a caterpillar. Draw fewer, bigger bumps. Three is plenty.
Make it simpler
Skip the face. Draw the flat line and the three bumps, then color the cloud in.
