A sun is a perfect first drawing: one big circle, some short straight lines and a happy face. Take your time with each line. Wobbly rays look like sunshine too!

Rather color it? Print the sun coloring page.

Tips for this drawing

Helpful hints

  • Hold the pencil lightly and draw the circle slowly. It does not have to be perfect.
  • Turn your paper as you draw the rays if that feels easier.

Common mistakes

  • The rays touch the circle and look like a spider. Leave a small gap between the circle and each ray.
  • The face is squeezed at the top. Put the eyes a little above the middle of the circle, then the smile below them.

Make it simpler

Draw just the circle and four rays, then color it in.
