The Animal Shelter Helpers, an Adventure Mission story cover

Mission 19

The Animal Shelter Helpers

The Maple Street Animal Shelter is short of hands this week, and every animal is waiting: for breakfast, for a walk, for a clean pen and, one day, for a home. Give each one what it needs, count out the food, read the care cards, fill the store room and plan a day that works for all of them.

  • 3 parts
  • 3 to 5 minutes
  • Preschool and Pre-K

Who is playing?

Each age gets its own version of the story. Any of them is fine to play.

Something for Everyone

The job: Help Tala give every animal just what it needs.

  1. Two New Beds With a PlayOwl plan
  2. Dinner Time With a PlayOwl plan
  3. What Do They Need? With a PlayOwl plan
For grown-ups: what this mission practices

Matching needs to what meets them, counting to a card, reading scales, charts and clocks, working out amounts from a rate, ordering supplies inside a budget, and planning a schedule with fixed times and limited helpers. Older children replan when things change and justify the routine. The animal care is true to life, with amounts simplified.

Ages
Five versions, from Preschool to Grade 8. They are different designs, not the same task with other numbers.
How it is checked
Every answer is checked by rules the child can see at work on the screen. Any answer that meets them is right.
Help
Olly can read any line aloud, give a hint that points at where to look, or show one way. A report says where help was used.
Time
Nothing is timed. A part takes a few minutes and progress is saved after each one for a signed-in child.
